Lebanon Qualifier Results

The team performed very well at the robot game, especially for a rookie team. Our engineering improvements and all our practice really paid off. We came in fourth among eight teams in the qualification rounds, with a score of 260, and then scored 280 in the second round of the elimination rounds.

Our presentations did not go as well. We definitely performed better than we had in practice, but also left plenty of room for improvement next year. We need to speak louder, slower, and more enthusiastically. I had a thought afterwards:

In order to present well, we have to do the work; but the judges won't know we did the work if we don't present it well.

I should have realized how important the presentations are to our score, and I will make sure we are much better prepared for them next year. I will provide more instruction in public-speaking, more time for preparation, and more time for practice.

When I picked up our score results the head judge made a point to say that we did very well for a rookie team and that first-year lessons-learned set teams up to do well in following years. As I told the kids leading up this, it's hard to play soccer well if you've never seen a game. Now that we've competed, we know much better what it takes to do well.

And regardless of all that, we had a lot of fun!

Post-Season

After the competition season has concluded, I will host additional sessions for students who would like to continue to learn coding and robotics in a low-stress environment.

Some additional robotics concepts we can work on, depending on interest:

We can also work on solutions to FLL missions we did not attempt this season, and perhaps participate in invitational events in the Spring.

We could also work on developing our public speaking and presentation skills!

Schedule and location to be determined based on interest.
