Second Session: Tue 9/2
Homework prior:
- Find an interesting archaeology problem you'd like to solve.
NB: Archaeology is the study of human artifacts from any era, including the 21st century. Recovering, e.g., battlefield debris from WW2, is archaeology. Also, the challenge does not have to be limited to digging. It could be around analysis, communication, discovery, surveying, etc. The topic area is purposefully broad to enable maximum creativity.
See the Archaeology Links page for more resources.
Decide which team responsibilities you're interested in. (Pick at least 3.)
Research and learn about robot coding and mechanisms.
1. Intro Videos: [Omitted]
2. Coach:
Lead selection of primary and secondary roles.
Draw table on whiteboard with participants and responsibilities:
| Name | Role 1 | Role 2 | Role 3 | Role 4 | ... |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Name 1 | x | x | x | ||
| Name 2 | x | x | |||
| Name 3 | x | ||||
| Name 4 | x | x | |||
| ... |
- Responsibilities: Project, Code, Missions, Materials, Research, Communications, Documentation, Captain. (Other?)
- Mark off each person's desires on table.
- Discuss who will take each responsibility.
- Select responsibilities, and document!
- Come up with a fun/creative name for your role.
3. Research Manager: [Omitted]
- Collect ideas for innovation project problems.
- Discuss problems found. Which are most exciting?
- Make a selection? Or more research?
4. Project Manager:
When will we have the following steps done? Are there any other steps?
a. Discuss and decide on milestones for research project.
- Problem selection.
- Solution ideas.
- Research and contact users.
- Final solution selection.
- Presentation prep.
b. Discuss and decide on milestones for robot design and game.
- Robot: learn basic coding and mechanisms
- Mission challenge selection.
- Solution design.
- Test solutions and iterate.
- Final code and mission selection.
- Game practice.
- Presentation practice.
5. Mission Manager:
a. Videos:
b. Missions:
c. Set up table.
6. Team Captain:
Team choice: Build missions and/or more coding/construction?
Just do one all together?
Split into two groups and alternate halfway?
Split into two groups with opposite tasks next week?
Build a couple and have coach and Oliver finish construction at home? [Build missions together chosen.]
If coding/construction: robot sensors and actuators.
Discuss use of MyBlocks so you don't have to repeat code.
7. Materials Manager:
- Make sure all materials, parts, and robots are collected.
[Below omitted due to running over time.]
8. Documentation Manager:
- What did we accomplish today?
- What did we decide today? How?
- What did we learn today?
- How did we apply the core values?
9. Team Captain:
- Assign homework based on team input and milestones
- Discuss tasks for next week
- Discuss how team will assign missions.
- Discuss how team will solve some missions.
Task/homework ideas:
- Create example mechanisms with gears, levers, hooks, scoops, etc.
- Research examples of robust code.
- Pick missions and come up with some possible solution.
